Example Ships - Geological Survey

In early 2036, none of the Commonwealth survey ships were jump-capable. In fact the only jump-capable survey ships in existence were the South American Rosales class. The lack of a jump engine meant the survey ships had to be escorted everywhere and coordinating the available jump ships with scattered survey ships was a logistical challenge. The Commonwealth shipbuilding capability was beginning to recover from the Final War on Earth and had three small yards on Sparta and four on Mars, including three restored alien shipyards. In January 2036 President Vorokov authorised a new program of larger, jump-capable survey ships, starting with the Galileo class Gravitational Survey Ship and the Darwin class Geological Survey Ship. Like its gravitationally-focused counterpart, the Darwin was capable of sustained independent operations.
