In spite of being technically obsolete, the venerable Magellan-II class remains in service thanks to a single vessel, the SC Marco Polo. Like Terran exploration as a whole, however, it has not been very active in recent years, mainly due to the discovery of the Kalugan star charts. Humanity's recent avenues into Precursor systems have been carried out by more advanced, stealth-capable scouts, the last survivor of this outdated class relegated to 'safe' exploration duties.
Ronin-class Special Recon Vessel

The Ronin, representing the first military practical application of cloaking devices, inaugurated the Special Reconnaissance (SR) naval designation. Curiously enough, the first ship of its class was the SR Drake, a refitted Magellan-II scout. This ground-breaking vessel has been able to successfully remain undetected even in the face of Precursor active sensors as close as 8 million kilometres to the stealth ship. The Drake has also confirmed Precursor presence in the 10 Tauri system, gathering valuable intel on new enemy ship classes in the process, and can be expected to conduct many more high-risk recon missions elsewhere in the galaxy.

Taking advantage of the Ronin class' ability to remain virtually undetectable even at distances under 10 million km, the Terran Navy decided to develop a variant that cannot be entirely considered a scout nor a warship. The Shinobi exploits its minimal cross-section and more noticeable thermal signature to lure enemies into range of the innovative Shuriken Tactical Anti-Ship Missile (TASM). The Shuriken is meant to be manually fired at waypoints placed on the enemy's location, so that the missile's integrated active sensors can detect the target on their own and strike it without ever revealing the firer's position.
