Back to Shadow's Terran Federation

Information

  • Prototypes are largely unfinished proposals, usually pending Terran Navy's necessities, design choices and/or certain scientific advances.

Edwards-class Fighter Base

P-Edwards class Fighter Base 11950 tons 215 Crew 1129 BP TCS 239 TH 0 EM 0
Armour 10-46 Sensors 1/0 Damage Control Rating 0 PPV 0
Hangar Deck Capacity 8000 tons Troop Capacity: 1 Battalion

This design is classed as a Planetary Defence Centre and can be pre-fabricated in 5 sections

The Terran Navy plans to place Edwards spacefighter bases on planets across human space in order to provide colonial territories efficient defensive capabilities, independent of mobile battle groups. However, given the defeat of the Kalugans and warming relations with the Ramshar Empire and Church of Battle Axe, there are no perceivable threats to human colonies to date. Therefore, static planetary defense is not currently one of the Terran Federation's top priorities.

From the technical standpoint, there's conflicting opinions about the design, mainly around the level of armour required, ground troop capacity and anti-missile defense. Not to mention the lack of a definitive fighter craft design.

The latest proposed design of the Hydra equips the spacecraft with deadly meson weaponry, not too dissimilar from that witnessed during the Star Swarm encounters of the 2040s. Even though able to ignore even the strongest shields and armour, the suggested cannon is a bulky, rather unwieldly weapon for a fighter. While the Hydra's offensive potential remains largely unquestioned, the Terran Navy is worried about its survivability, considering the size of the meson weapon and the additional strain the necessary compact fusion reactor (not present in the current design) would put on the fighter's engine.

The design's ever-increasing tonnage not only decreases the Hydra's agility, but also the amount of fighter craft its hypothetical carrier would be able to transport and maintain. An example of this concern is the Corsair assault carrier, which can normally carry five small craft, but would only be able to house three Hydras. Alternative designs propose a lighter fighter, armed with either missile launchers or gauss cannons.

Jiangwei-class Light Carrier

Like the Edwards fighter base, the Jiangwei's status depends on the finalization of a viable fighter design. This cruiser-sized carrier is planned to provide battle groups a solid fighter operations platform. The current design would ideally be able to house a complement of approximately 30 fighters, a figure which may be expanded once the proposal is updated to meet recent technological breakthroughs.

Miner-class Asteroid Miner

P-Miner class Asteroid Miner 76100 tons 1546 Crew 2074.6 BP TCS 1522 TH 0 EM 0
1 km/s Armour 1-159 Shields 0-0 Sensors 1/1/0/0 Damage Control Rating 1 PPV 0
Maint Capacity 17 MSP Max Repair 120 MSP
Asteroid Miner: 15 module(s) producing 300 tons per mineral per annum

This design is classed as a commercial vessel for maintenance purposes

This unnamed, engine-less class is a proposed alternative to self-propelled asteroid miners like the Maadi. While not particularly lighter, these platforms would utilize the mass otherwise taken up by large commercial engines and fuel storage tanks to enhance the vessel's efficiency through additional mining modules. Atlas-class tugs would be responsible for their relocation.
