This page concerns the VB6 version of the game (last released December 27, 2015). It has been superseded by a version written in C#, referred to as Aurora C# or C# Aurora, which can be found on the community forums or the main page of this wiki. The latest version of Aurora is 2.5.0 C#. Some information may still be accurate, but use it at your own risk.

Each empire is ruled by a government of a specific type; the different systems of governance provide different gameplay advantages. You can choose your government type while setting up a new game, and which you can freely switch between while in the game itself.

Government types

There are 38 different types of government. The government type that you choose while setting the game up will determine how many tech points you start with, which can be used either by checking the "Assign starting tech points automatically" option on the create game screen, or they can be used as guidelines when giving yourself research with the SpaceMaster Mode. Your starting government type also effects your starting installation proportions, and government modifiers.

Government Modifiers

The choice of government type effect the six modifiers listed bellow:

  • Xenophobia: A rating from 1-100, showing the fear of other races or governments.
  • Diplomacy: A rating from 1-100, showing the ability to persuade other races. This is used to offset the Xenophobia of another race.
  • Militancy: A rating from 1-100, showing the likelihood this race will choose military force to achieve its goals.
  • Expansionism: A rating from 1-100, showing the desire of this race to increase its territory.
  • Determination: A rating from 1-100, showing the determination of this race to proceed with a chosen course of action despite setbacks.
  • Trade: A rating from 1-100, showing the willingness to trade with other races and to establish/allow trading posts.
