A planet (from Ancient Greek ἀστήρ πλανήτης astēr planētēs, or πλάνης ἀστήρ plánēs astēr, meaning "wandering star") is an astronomical object orbiting a star or stellar remnant that
- is massive enough to be rounded by its own gravity,
- is not massive enough to cause thermonuclear fusion, and
- has cleared its neighbouring region of planetesimals
Gravity
One of the factors limiting what can and cannot be successfully terra-formed is gravity. Given that planets have sufficient gravity to have become rounded and to have cleared their neighboring region of planetesimals, they make better potential colonies than most smaller bodies.
Groupings
Planets are the third level of grouping within Aurora (after Race and System)
- As such they can have their own moons
