Description
Railguns are a type of beam weapon. Railguns fire salvos of 4 shots. They have a maximum range of
Base Damage * Range Modifier * 10000km
Their rate of fire is
Base Damage * 3 / Capacitor Recharge Rate * 5s
While the theoretical maximum range far exceeds 1.5m km, no Beam Fire Control is able to handle ranges beyond this limit. Longer laser ranges still lead to increased damage across their effective range. Railguns cannot be mounted in turrets
Usage
Railguns have lower range and lower damage per shot than Lasers. However they fire volleys of four shots, dealing out a third more damage than a comparable Laser system. Thus Railguns are inferior at penetrating armor and dealing Shock Damage, but superior against lightly armored or shielded opponents.
Despite the inability to be mounted in turrets, small Railguns are a popular early point defense weapon, as they are half the size of full Gauss Cannons and their high volume of fire can make up for the lack in accuracy.
